I hope this message finds you well. I am a member of Avon Valley Runners, a Wiltshire based club, and I am emailing you to tell you about an open virtual running event we are hosting that I think you may be interested in taking part in.
The Virtual Avon Valley Relay is team competition with 4 legs; 2.5km, 5km, 7.5km and 10km with the idea that hopefully (fingers crossed!) there should be a leg distance to suit most abilities. Between Monday 22nd of June and Sunday the 5th of July runners will have 2 weeks to run their leg, wherever they want, whenever they want and to submit their time by posting their result of the Facebook event page https://www.facebook.com/events/531852160752391/ (or if unable to access Facebook to email me their result). The stress of having to complete the run on a certain day is taken away. All we ask is that runners respect and maintain social distancing guidelines. Results will be done off elapsed time and entry is FREE. Entry can be found here as well as more details about the event: https://www.entrycentral.com/AVRRelay2020
This event is perfect for serious runners who want a bit of competition but also for runners who want to have a bit of fun with their assembled 'dream team' of club mates/friends! Competition categories are serious and fun: Best team name, Best socially distanced team picture (Get creative! This could be everyone together or 4 pictures put together), Best picture running in fancy dress, 1st Male Team, 1st Female Team, 1st Junior Team and 1st Mixed Team.
Although entry is free the event has set up a JustGiving page to try and raise money for the charity 'Shelter'. Here is the link https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/avrrelay . I fully appreciate that not everyone may be in a financial position to be able to donate. Therefore donations are not compulsory; only if you can and want to.
On a personal note this is my third year being the RD for the Avon Valley Relay and I believe it is probable that I will not have the capacity for RD again next year. I was very disappointed when I realised the COVID-19 pandemic would stop the running of this race. So this year I absolutely would love to see a great big virtual relay in my final year leading the event, to do something positive, to see how much money we can raise for charity. My dream would be to have at least one team from every county in the South West enter!
I really hope you think about getting involved and if so I will look forward to seeing you submit some teams soon! Entry has only been open for a few days but so far we already several teams entered including runners all the way from Glasgow!
