Dear Martin,

We hope you and all at your club are keeping well and that the recent relaxation of government guidelines is enabling your club and its members to take a step towards club activity in some form.

Please see below for some important information for your role as Club Secretary – including updates on Guidance for a restricted return to activity, 2020 Competition Planning, Virtual Event Licensing, Regional Volunteer Awards, our new ‘Athletics & Running for everyone… safely distanced’ activity, and a reminder on club affiliation and athlete registration.

Guidance for a restricted return to activity

As of 19 June 2020, we have added three new guidance documents - one for Affiliated Clubs, one on Road Running and one on Health and Safety considerations for club activity. These are in addition to, and aligned to, our previously published guidance documents for Athletes and Runners, Coaches and Leaders, and Athletics Venues. We have also created an infographic to share our planned route to return to full training and competition (this is obviously dependent on government advice). Please read all guidance material and circulate to all relevant club personnel and members as appropriate.

Competitions Planning 2020

On Wednesday 17 June, we released our latest framework to return to limited track and field competition.  Following the timetabled issue of relevant government advice on 4 July, we are aiming to release guidance on the limited return to track and field competition, including details of the licensing process and information about running a competition, on 7 July.

Virtual event licensing reminder

Virtual race organisers are reminded that insurance is still required for virtual events (as it is not possible for an Event Organiser to contract out liability relating to any possible injury that participants may incur while taking part). Affiliated clubs can apply for virtual event licensing free of charge. Virtual events and races will be covered under UKA Insurance if the organisation is affiliated to England Athletics and the race is licensed.

The deadline of 28 June is fast approaching to nominate the heroes in your club, and across our sport, for the England Athletics Regional Volunteer Awards 2020!  You can nominate in nine categories, highlighting the fantastic work by athletics and running clubs, RunTogether groups, coaches, leaders, officials, volunteers and also recognising long-serving individuals and community-focused activity.

Athletics and Running for everyone… safely distanced

Building on our successful Athletics and Running for everyone @home programme, launched in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are pleased to announce the next step in moving towards a new ‘normal’, which we hope will see full training and competition in the not-too-distant future.

Whilst we wait for our wish to get back to being with our club and competition counterparts whenever we want, everyone at England Athletics, RunTogether and funetics has been working to create new elements for our support programme for our affiliated clubs and registered athletes as well as the wider community: welcome to Athletics and Running for everyone… safely distanced.

This includes information on our new Virtual Competitions that may be of interest to your members – including our new Weekly30 Run Challenge, Virtual 5k Road Running Championships and Virtual Multi-Event competition platform.

We would like to emphasise that this is not a starting point for full training and competitions to take place as normal pre-Coronavirus. The current government exercise guidelines are clear, and England Athletics supports this messaging.
