History of Crewkerne Running Club 1998

This years most notable event was in November when we lost Sue Rideout and gained another Fox. Fred and Sue went to run The New York City Marathon and came back as husband and wife.

Jan 4th Axmouth 8.2, Sue, Fred and Roy .
Jan 11th Luppit Lollop, Heather, Roy, Jim, Dave and Fred

March 9th South Petherton Run 28 runners from Crewkerne and Yeovil turned up

April 8th The first Pub run of the year, this time starting from The Royal George at West Coker. Good food and Hospitality which made up for the bad weather.

May 6th Club Handicap followed by presentations at the Poulett Arms at Lopen head
May 30th Second Pub Run from The Bottle Inn Marshwood
Jim organised, 10 runners + 1 walker. Good weather with photo shoot at Lamberts Castle. New Landlord, not the same with chips, peas and ketchup in short supply. Martin C nearly froze to death in Clive’s jeep on the way home.

June 17th Third Pub Run from The Greed Dragon Combe St Nicholas
9 people and one dog turned up for this long up and down run. Jim befriended a yokel farmer in the middle of nowhere, or was he trying to sell some oil. The food and beer was excellent.

July 1st Fourth Pub Run from The Fleur de lys at Stoke sub Hamdon.
This was the first time visit. Martin C walked and never saw a sole. Invincible Tony was not content with strolling around the corner from his house so he drove into Crewkerne first. A good run, Pub and food.

July 11th Charmouth Challenge
Rain, rain and even more rain, only a few hardy runners and 2 wet spectators. Plenty runners slid down the last hill.
July 29th Fifth Pub Run from Dinnington Docks
Organised by Heather, much too long for some, Northern miles again. Apparently not enoughn time for the Beer. Jim got stung by a Bee. Good food in the usual style, Bread and Butter and Pear and Ginger upside down puddings were favourite.

Aug 12th Dereks Haselbury 10k
Plenty of help from the club, finished off with a visit to North Perrot Pub.

Sept 9th Sixth Pub Run from The Nelson at Norton
Also Sue’s Birthday so cake and Bubbly was also on hand. 12 runners turned up for excellent food.
Sept 20th Ivybridge Beacon Race : Fred and Sue

Sept 27th Clarendon Way Marathon : Fred and Sue

Oct 9th First Winter Pub Run The Old Stage Coach
Only 4 turned up but food was enjoyed by those who did.
Oct 11th Mendip Muddle : Fred, Sue, Jim and Pete
Gosport Half : Tony Strugnell
Oct 17th Skittles at Dinnington Docks
14 assorted mambers and friends were present,Tim turned up late on his bike and proceeded to polish off all his skittle rounds and then pedal off to another venue. Top score was Phil with 40, followed by Fred 39 and Tony 37.
Oct 25th Snowdonia Marathon : Mal, Mike, Tony Strugnell and Jim (who had to
stop at 16 miles).

New York Marathon : Fred and Sue
Nov 2nd Fred and Sue got Married in New York

Heather came 2nd Vet
Nov 18th Second Pub Run at The White Hart
14 this time for food, Martin D had a half loaf sandwich (he had acurry waiting when he went home). This was preceeded by wine to celebrate Fred and Sues marriage at New York.

Dec 13th Winter Handicap
The winner was birthday boy Brian Hillard who won from the front with a clear gap behind. A good turn out of 19 members with plenty of mince pies, biscuits and hot drinks afterwards.
Dec 17th Christmas Dinner at the Old Stage Coach
29 attended with presentations of handicap prizes and the London draw.
Dec. 20th Christmas X/C Enjoyed by all, 15 turned up with Coffee, wine etc. afterwards.
26th Dec Stoke stampede.
Heather, Sue, Fred and Roy - a very wet day the race No.s had turned to pulp before the start.
26th Dec Pram Race.
Martin Denman (driver), Ken and Jim (engine room) won the race in dreadful conditions (Bottles of wine and Trophy)
28th Dec. Ham Hill Pub Run From the Nelson
A nice sunny day, with 8 people who stayed for a good meal at the Pub
