Herepath Half - Sarah McDermott

What a lovely sunny day for a run, or evan a half marathon. Personally I wasn’t looking forward to this run1, because of it being all uphill for first half of race, 2, I didn’t think I’d done enough training and 3 well can’t think for now but I’m sure there was another reason!!

Anyway those crc members that were brave enough to take it on, met for team photo then off for the race briefing.

The race director asked if this was anyone’s first herepath half to which most runners stuck their hands up!! We know why now after running it, I’ll tell you later!
So off we then went to the start where our speedier members went near the front and us not so speedy a bit further back.

Nigel Newbury and I started together at a steady pace and kept that more or less all the way round. We had a nice time chatting, (yes me talking for those of you that know me, is a rareity,)having a laugh through the mud and basically having a good run.

There were no mile markers so Nigel was keeping us updated on how far we’d done and then how far left to go. Some of the scenery was beautiful and running through the woods was lovely.

Before we knew it we were at the last drink station at about 10.5 miles so nearly done. We tackled the last few miles well considering we were beginning to flag a bit, but the last mile or so was virtually down so we were able to keep going. Then we had the church in sight which was a relief to us as the school, the finish,is right next to it. We’d made it round together which helped me a lot as most races I end up on my own. So no ‘mishaps’ much to my joy, and finishing a run that in the end wasn’t too bad, although don’t think I’ll be doing it next year!! Think that’s why most of the runners today were first timers as others don’t go back!! We had a glass for our effort.
Thank you Tracy for driving us,we didn’t get the car to dirty!
