London Marathon 2016 - Matt Brunt

I would like to thank the running club committee for drawing my name out the hat in the club ballot for the London Marathon. This was my first marathon and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The 16 weeks of training before race day was hard work at times but it set me up perfectly for the day. I was aiming for 3 hours 30 minutes so was extremely pleased to finish in 3 hours 26 minutes 15 seconds. The support from family and friends helped a lot through the training and on the day I had support from my Dad, brother Luke and nephew Archie (although I missed seeing them cheering me along the embankment). The crowds were amazing and it was like a carnival atmosphere and really helped to encourage me when my legs began to feel tired at 22 miles. The best part for me was running over Tower Bridge with many well-known landmarks on view and the sound of the supporters lining each side of the bridge. It was a very memorable day running with 39,000 runners and the best running event I have taken part in, which will live long in my memory. I would love to run it again sometime in the future (ballot for 2017 opens May 2nd see below).
