Camelot Challenge - James Beech

Camelot Challenge Race Report.- James Beech

Half-marathon 19th September.

This event is a multi terrain run/race starting and finishing at Sherborne.  It's open to runner, walkers, dogs and believe it or not horses, they did start off two hours later and on a slightly different course.

I arrived early, on a very misty but sunny day and at 9 o'clock we were on our way.  We started on the road heading through the Vale of Camelot and the sun came out, then off road for a stretch, beautiful views, a one particularly tough hill (bit of walking), arrived at the half way point.  The Camelot Pub in South Cadbury where lots of cheering drinkers giving all a load of vociferous support, turned for home only about 6 miles to go, one more really tough hill, mostly off road from here arrived back at the finish in 1 hour 59 minutes and 18 seconds in 24th place.

I found this event tough but it was friendly and accessible to all, the pub was welcoming for those who wanted to stop for refreshment and a rest, some of the walkers finished in excess of 5 hours so they probably availed themselves of these facilities for some time !  A good event to be considered for all, it was a club championship event after all.
